Strange IP Camera issue

Hi guys,

I wonder if you could help with the following.

I have some cheap, wireless Zmodo IP (no ethernet) cams in house and they've worked brilliantly until a few months ago when a power cut caused one to lose it's config. Prior to the power cut, the camera connected to my Ubiquiti AC-LR with no issues. Post power cut, the camera no longer could connect to the Unifi and instead I had to connect to the TP-Link router, a work around that I was happy with as the camera was near router.

Yesterday, another power cut and a different camera has the same issue, it will only connect to the TP-Link. I'm assuming it's something to do with the 2.4ghz network but nothing has changed on the unifi?

Any suggestions? The second camera isn't anywhere near the TP Link so I need to get it back connected to the Unifi, I'm not entirely sure how to create a separate network with only 2.4 selected if that is a suggested solution.

Cheers,

You can create a new wireless network in the top level settings (bottom left of GUI).

You can then change the SSIDs on the device to be different for 2.4GHZ and 5GHz.

Finally, point the camera to the new 2.4GHz only SSID.

If you don't mind having different SSIDs on your main wireless you could just change them and not bother with a second wireless network.

Thanks. I thought that would be the suggestion, doesn’t really answer what has changed when they used to work? Also my TPLink is broadcasting both 5 and 2.4 as is the UniFi. I did have a look at creating another wlan but couldn’t see where you disable 5ghz?

One Internet theory is that the device gets confused because there's a single SSID for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. When it reconnects it tries to connect to the 5GHz instead of the 2.4GHz and fails. It's then too stupid to reconnect to where it's supposed to.

Splitting the SSIDs does seem to fix this sort of issue.

You don't need to disable 5GHz on the second network. Use different SSIDs for the two bands and only tell the camera about the 2.4GHz version. The 5GHz can sit there doing nothing.

Cheers. No luck I'm afraid, created the second wlan, still the same issue. I even disabled the 5ghz radio just to check. Bizarre

Do the cameras have radios for 5Ghz Wi-Fi?

Sounds like the cameras have reset back to factory defaults or lost some config due to the power cut.

Have you checked the configuration on the camera after the power cut?

They have reset back to default for sure, you configure them by using a smartlink option in the Zsight app. It's usually a 2 minute setup but you can't browse to them once they're connected. Just have basic options within the app on your phone.

They don't have 5ghz radios.

As mentioned they work perfectly fine with the TP Link router, just not the Ubiquit AP.

If the cameras don't have 5Ghz radios then they would only be able to see the 2.4Ghz wifi.

Is the Ubiquiti AC-LR broadcasting 2.4Ghz?

But have you confirmed what is being transmitted? Easiest way is to give the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz unique names.

I can currently see on the client list devices connected on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. As I said above I created a second WLAN and called it something different, disabled 5ghz and still no joy. Thanks

When the camera is reset back to factory defaults does it broadcast it's own Wi-Fi so you can connect and then configure it using an app?

That is the later model, this is the ZX-IXB1D so it doesn't broadcast a wifi to connect too. I can't even get it working on the router now so maybe it's just had it..

Cheers
