I bought a 16gb Iphone 4 in August through Tesco so it is using the 02 network. Over the last couple of weeks calls I have made have been very 'garbled' (technical terminology) with the other party seemingly able to hear me but not me them.

Apple cannot seem to find a problem but have suggested I send it to them and they will post out a brand new replacement.

However, I have just found out that my wife has been having similiar problems with her calls and have read of similiar iphone 4 users having issues like this where the culprit is the cell tower.

Unsure what to do now whetehr to send it back or keep it as calls today have been fine. Would a hardware fault be intermittant?

Help and advice needed?

I know what you mean, it has happened to me but only 5 or so times in nearly 2 years. But then i dont often call people.

Im not sure if its the phone or the network, im on o2, and i think Tesco use o2 network infrastructure. So maybe it is a network issue, you checked the apple forums?

Got to be a network issue tbh. I've experienced very occasional garbled calls on three on numerous phones over the past few years.

Had the same around stoke recently but nothing over Notts way. Id get a new handset anyway just to be sure and if it continues you have your answer.

If you can get a new handset then do it.

At least it'll put your doubts (in the hardware) at rest :)

Yes I was of that train of thought too. But this last week its been absoluteley fine which makes me now think its a network issue rather than hardware.

Just found out the wife and he mother having worst problems of the same type on virgin (tmobile) which also reinforces this.

May send away and get shiney new handset.

Apple sent me a return packet does this have a tiome limit? Ideally want my trip to London tomorrow out the way first otherwise the hotel will be very boring.

The iphone 4 and networks is odd, on orange in an area where i work no data, for no reason, even though sometimes its full date, on orange-tmobile its totally fine, read its not a signal issue, its defo some sort of compatability thing or weirdness like that.

100% network problem, try rebootin your phone it should sort the problem out for a while, i been getting a lot on both my networks that i use, i guess the network sometimes gets overload, and when you reboot you like disconnect and then log on again.

Yeah did a reboot with the lady from Apple (not to be confused with the man from del monte).

All seems fine now, wish I could say the same about my wife's blackberry lol....

There was a period of around 2-3 days, back when I used to work as a Genius, when we had a load of people having the same issue book appointments at the bar. It was definitely a network issue in the area.

Hope that helps.

Yes. You have 30 days to return the iPhone, or they charge you for a new one.

They'll put a charge on your account when you request the replacement, just to check the funds are available. No money will be taken.

The packet also comes with a UPS express return pouch :)
