My brother brought an ipod nano a few months ago, it never worked in his computer but worked fine with everyone elses so I assumed the problem was with his computer and resolved to fix it when I had the time. He downloads every stupid dodgy piece of software he can get his hands on so it didnt seem to much of a stretch of the imagination to be this.

So i cleaned up the computer, removed all the viruses/spyware etc and it still didnt work. Then I formatted it and did a full reinstall and still no luck. All the drivers are updated, and apart from the ipod everything works perfectly. Including a whole host of other USB devices.

Formatted his ipod in my computer (also windowsXP) and still didnt work. Also tried changing cables and USB ports.

So I was starting to think there must be a hardware problem somewhere, but not sure what as the computer works fine with a whole host of other USB devices.
Tried my ipod in his computer, works perfectly! Which was odd.

So to sum up;
brothers ipod doesnt work in brothers computer, but works fine on any other computer (both pc and mac, ipod is windows formatted).
brothers computer works fine with any ipod except my brothers.

The only explination I can come to involves evil spirits, hopefully this is not the case.

Have you tried unplugging other USB devices before you plug it into said PC?.....

Devices can conflict with each other (joypad ps2 controller to usb caused issues that took me ages to figure out the cause of) and you may find removing other devices helps in some cases.

Unlikely, but its something to try... ;)

I've got the exact same problem with a Creative Muvo!... Works fine on all my other pooters (and a mates) but not my main rig!... no matter what I try!...

Problem is the main rig is the only one with USB 2.0!... all the others are USB 1.1

What Chipset is is your Mobo!?... Mines a 'nF 3-250' (Abit NF8-V2)

I'll have a go at the unplugging of the other device, not sure if I tried that one by mistake already, but heres hopeing!

The motherboard is an old nforce2 number so dont think its the same. They ask whether computers are ever going to become alive, I say they already are!
