strange issue with USB

I have a set of mobius aduze headphones and these worked fine over a 4.5 m usb cable into my old PC - z77 extreme MB

I have now built a new PC with a MSI B450 carbon pro MB but for some reason the headphones are not being picked up using the same USB cable.

using a short cable works but not the longer cable

it worked before but not now on my new PC

tried both front and rear -same result

yep tried all the various ports and no joy. The strange thing is that the headphones are getting power as they are charging but i am getting a message to say that the USB device failed (WINDOWS CANT RECOGNIZE THE DEVISE MESSAGE)
