Strange issue with Vista password re-set

On my HTPC this morning after boot up it said my password has expired (for some reason, the PW expires after 60 days), I entered the current password and then entered the same PW for the new PW and logged on correctly.

I then tried to connect to my shared drive on the HTPC with my main workstation (mapped drive), however it asked for the username and PW. I entered the username and PW I use to log to the HTPC but it rejected it.

I reset the HTPC and logged on correctly with the same credentials I used when trying to access the mapped drive.

Confused at this point so I tried to change (and later remove the pw) from the account for the HTPC machine but Vista says the PW entered is incorrect.

So how can I be logging on to the HTPC on boot up but the same PW is incorrect when trying to change the PW?

Not quite sure, but did you have the same username and password on both your HTPC and main workstation, hence why changing the password on HTPC cause the username prompt from the workstation mapped drive?
