We had a scheduled power cut today, so my Dad made sure his computer was off before it was switched off, and he only fired it up again some time after the electricity came back on.
Upon doing so, he found that his LAN connection wasn't working - it displays the standard 'Network cable unplugged' message. But the cable is in, and the light for that port is lit up on the router. I have tried another cable but the same thing occurs.
There are 2 other computers connected to the same router which are both working flawlessly. I have tried switching round the ports but this makes no difference, they all work fine on the other computers. I have tried uninstalling/re-installing the network adapter, but this has made no difference. LAN is enabled in the BIOS.
I don't know what else to try, does anyone have any suggestions, other than format/re-install?
