Strange lines in games

Hi guys, I built my new gaming rig yesterday and installed the latest drivers.
However, when playing games or running Heaven Benchamrk, I get these strange horizontal lines/flickerings. They are more visable in darker areas.

I haven't got much of a clue why this could be, except for a little inkling that maybe this is due to my monitor not being good enough?
Is it possible this is what is causing these lines or is it something else?

My rig is...

Silly people are worthy of silly questions.... *blush*
It seems enabling v-sync sorted the problem in that game, but how do I set it so it's on all the time? Because it's happening in Heaven Benchmark and I see no option for v-sync in there.

Ok, I just did a little research on V-Sync. It stops my gpu refresh rate from going higher than my monitors capabilities correct?
So my monitor is holding back my rig?

I wouldn't say it's holding it back, depends on the resolution and brand of your monitor.

There are monitors out there that can do 120-140Hz.

Well, i've just started playing Bioshock Infinite and i've enabled the v-sync, while im not getting the flickering lines, there is a couple of constant scanner lines that are clearly visable in the darker corners of rooms, etc.

Any thoughts on what would be causing this?

Are you using one of those vga to dvi adapters by any chance? Something similar happened to me a while back and this was the cause. Made the switch to just using a dvi cable and it solved it.

I noticed faint horizontal lines on dark backgrounds when I first installed my 670.

They went away when I used HDMI rather than VGA.

I am indeed using one of those!
I'll get a dvi cable tomorrow, thanks :)
