Hello all, i have been having a very very odd problem with my pc for the past couple of months my system is overclocked but has ran various stability checks and has been passed as totally stable 6 hours SP2004 Orthos Edition. I have this evening ran test's 5,6 and 7 each running for hours and hours no errors not a scratch found. The problem is that the system can just totally lock up at totally intermittent times sometimes it won't happen for days or maybe weeks then when it does it sometimes has a series of lockups just now i had a lockup where i hit the reset button it booted fine got to logon win xp loading and it locked up while it was loading my apps, then powercycled it it locked up again when i logged on and didn't even get to desktop took plug out the wall for ten seconds and it booted. there are no error reports nothing is reported the lockup can happen when im idling or when im just multitasking this is my spec;

AMD X2 3800 @ 2.4Ghz
Geil Value PC3200 2GB
Hiper 580w Type r
X1900XT 512MB
Asus A8R32-MVP

im totally lost as to what to do im pointing fingers at my PSU could it be on its way out or sometime what do people think and where should i go from here ive pretty done as much as i can :( :confused:.

another thing which ive noticed is once i reboot some settings that i had set such as i set my clock to display 12 Hour from the control panel after the lockup it had not saved what i had set and had gone back to 24 hour so after these freezes some settings are lost very odd

I had this happen a few weeks ago with my uncles pc, it worked fine for a few hours then for no reason it work just totally lockup & when reset it could work for 5 mins.

I went through the memory & removed drives & tried a fresh install of xp.

The memory tested as ok on memtest86, Then I was kindly told there had been a power cut a week beforehand. The faults were put down to either the cpu or the board, being an amd xp3000 cpu & an nf2 mobo it wasnt worth sourcing *** parts.

if you have the ability to test your cpu elswhere do it & viceversa with the ram & mobo. The fault is either the cpu or mobo as it is doing *** same things I was experiencing

sounds like ram issues to me, try setting the ram to the 2t command rate

This is probably going to be a case of trial and error. Before starting to mess with the hardware try updating your drivers or rolling back or what ever. Also scan or virus and spyware. Try these first and then report back. I noticed you say its Overclocked and 100% stable but just try and revert back to stock and see how it goes.
