Strange marks on wall

My family has lived here since 1986 so these marks are from some point since it was built (1960s) and then - so definitely not wireless sockets! 
It is a bedroom so pretty sure it was never a kitchen, however I do believe the previous owners had a shower installed in the corner.

The more I look at them, the more they really do look like lego men glory holes - well done on that comment
I have counted 6 small squares and 6 or 7 larger rectangles but still no closer to the truth.
The whole lego glory hole remark made me wonder however as I know who the previous owners are as they only moved next door - the daughter, a single mum was, how to put it mildly ... quite the social lady when it came to the bedroom, the same room in question.
Sadly they moved away years ago so cannot ask them about it.
What horrors did this poor bedroom witness?
