strange memory issue

I have a shuttle SG41J4 and been having a lot of unexplained crashes recently

so ran memtest86+ and it showed that one of the 2 4Gb dimms had memory errors

popped out the 2 dimms, they are a matched pair of CORSAIR XMS3 DDR3 p/n CMX8GXM2A1333C9

unfortunately they have to be RMA'd together so I have acquired two identical dimms to keep me going whilst these go back to corsair for replacement under their lifetime warranty

only problem is that the PC will not boot with these replacement dimms

they are identical in everyway except the original ones are marked v2.12 and the non working ones marked v5.21

any ideas ?

so, I managed to get it to boot with one of the original dimms (v2.12) in slot 1 and one of the new ones in slot 2 (v5.21) and ran CPU-Z -
