A friend of mine recently got a new IP35Pro (for stability and to avoid hastles
as I have had one for ages without incident) at the same time he got 8GB of this stuff: OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2G8004GK)
And ... nothing but problems ... mostly to do with reported nvidia hardware errors with his 8800GT and firing up everest ALWAYS produced a BSOD implicating nv stuff .. now using memtest I traced a specific issue to a 2gb stick of RAM whereby with that stick as the only one in the machine it would not boot but with any of the others as the only stick it booted fine .. so duff memory ! Well, for a day or do the issues continued with that stick removed and I was getting a bit bothered cos I had recommended that board to him and and he knows little about computers
Now, after a full cmos reset his pc is absolutely fine ... I tried that dodgey ram in my machine and guess what - same boot failure and putting my regular ram back in and running everest results in a ... BSOD
It never did that before !! CMOS reset and all is well again ..
So what does RAM do a to a MOBO that can leave a lasting effect like this ... I had a similar problem when I tried my 3500LLPRO DDR sticks in my NF7 - many hard resets later it came back to life but was ostensibly dead for a while after trying that RAM
