A friend of mine has just bought the java edition of Minecraft to play on his laptop but he's having problems getting everything to work.

Basically he got the PC version so he could play about with the various mods, including one that dramatically improves the graphics quality/shaders.

The laptop has Radeon on-board graphics but also an Nvidia GTX1650 - if he runs the game through the Minecraft launcher he can stipulate that the game uses the dedicated GPU (great quality at 60FPS).....but then he can't get the game to recognise his X-Box gamepad.

The only way he's been able to get the gamepad working is by installing the game/launcher through Steam - this works fine gamepad-wise but there doesn't appear to be any way to then force the game to use the dedicated GTX1650 and so he gets a slide-show with it running on the onboard graphics!

He's messed around with the Nvidia control panel but with the game being a "non-Steam game" it isn't in the Steam folder that he specifies to force Steam to use the 1650!

Sorry if this is a bit of a ramble but has anyone encountered a similar problem or has any ideas of how to force the game to use the dedicated GPU while still booting through Steam to ensure that the controller works?

Yep, play it through Steam and the gamepad works fine apparently - he just can't get the game to use the dedicated GPU when it's launched through Steam (or more accurately, when the launcher is launched through Steam!)

In the nVidia control panel can you not force the actual .exe file to use the discrete gpu ? From my memory, it could specify inidividual files... or you could add it to the list etc.

Can't you create a desktop shortcut to the game from within stream then change the option to run with your discreet card there?
