Now I have had this lcd monitor (LG Flatron W1946) for over 2 years now and it has been fine since. However recently I added a new monitor and was using this as a second one. The problem occurred when I had turned both my screens off whilst leaving my computer on and when I turned them back on again the LG shown the desktop and then went dark leaving only the other monitor running. Now after playing around with drivers, cables and ports I have realized that if you look closely you can see that the monitor is on just with no real light, if I shine a torch into the screen I can just about see what is being displayed. Now I don't know if anyone can think of a solution or if this monitor has had it. The fact that it displays perfectly for a brief second makes me believe that the lights inside cannot be broken.
