I have a laptop here that has a strange problem

IE8 works perfect.
I can ping sites, network devices etc perfect.

However
NOD32 cant find a server to update
Firefox cant establish network connections (but works in safe mode !)
Skype can connexct at all.

Any ideas as to what the problem may be

HP Laptop i5 Windows 7 HP x86

Firewall rules?

No Checked that

I went through everything all services etc and could not find source of problem.

In the end I did a back of data and re-installation as it was the quickest way but would have liked to find source of problem.

Only thing I could find that may have been source of problem was that there was until a little while ago a "Internet Download Manager" installed and perhaps this have messed something up.

Not my lappy anyway but fixed now.

Cheers

One would think your issue is based in software.
IE works fine, yet firefox doesn't.

Proxy usage? DNS failure? DNs incorrectly stated?
Firewall?

Which firewall are you using?
Try uninstalling NOD and see if your problem initially go away and then return with a reinstallation.

All the settings for the network were correct. Using standard Windows firewall. Got rid on NOD but problem persisted.

Have you checked your network at router level? some routers block silly things.

Def was not a problem with the router as this was happening on several different networks it was connected to.

In the end I did a full backup format, but am sure it was to do with the Internet Download Software that had previously been installed.
