I have a windows 7 32bit machine upstairs that is acting as a media server for a Pinnacle Showcenter 250HD.

I rebooted the machine this morning and ever since it has been unable to detect the network cable.

Windows see's the onboard lan and says it is working properly and a LAN cable tester shows that all 8 wires of the lan cable are intact.

I can't figure this out, I'm assuming if it shows OK in windows the lan port must be fine.

Are you using static IP address's at all? That's where I would be checking, the router make sure nothing silly has happened with the IP's.

it's nothing to do with the router it does not see the cable at all.

The lights don't come on when the cable is plugged in but windows says the card is fine and the diagnostic just says plug in a cable

not really no the cable runs all the way through the house but as I said a proper 2 part lan cable tester showed it was fine and the same cable plugged into something else works just fine.

Did you recently "upgrade" the network drivers on that machine?

If so, try to roll them back (I have a similar issue if I allow windows to update my realtek network drivers to the WHQL signed drivers from windows update).

If the drivers weren't updated, it might just be a dead port. DO you have a second Lom port on that machine?

Nope changed nothing just rebooted it.

Thanks for trying guys but I gave up and put a new mobo in it and now it's working fine again.
