Hi,

I've had an Abit IP35 pro running a Core 2 Quad Q6600 happily for 2 and a bit years, getting on for nearly three, i think.

Anyway - it's not overclocked. But just today the CPU has started overheating - warning temp is 75 degrees, and it's hit that a few times now, never used to go above 35 even under load. Just seems to have a basic CPU cooler on it.

According to bios/uguru... CPU temp @ idle is 39-40 ish degrees, system is 28 and PWM is 54. The copper heatsinks on what I guess are NB/SB were almost too hot to touch, as was CPU HS. Memory HS (OCZ with the gold bits on, are also rather warm).

What could be the problem? Doesn't seem to be fans. They're all working and seem to be moving as much air as usual.

Or should I just buy a new PC.

Buy a new PC its probably had its day.

Try OCUK they're GGGGRRREEAAT

Just joking!

The main thing to look for around this time of year is a large carpet of build up - on the coolers both CPU and GFX, this is often a problem for many users.
It can happen anytime but festivities are know to cause unprecidented build up....for some reason....

some thing was never right IMO 35c load with std cooler ...on a quad? sorry mate thing something defo a miss. If the vcore is on auto in the bios sounds like it reporting about right now 75c on load. have you updated bios, cpuz etc ?

Well I'd expect it to be a bit warmer under load, but the rest of the components? They shouldn't feel THAT hot, should they?

yeah the abit heatsink design sucks but looks cool...look up the abit 35 pro mod for it. take the heat pipe add some washers and new paste and your looking at a 20c drop for them. funny enough was reading up a bout it yesterday. :)
