strange noise e39 help

hi i get a strange sound from my recently bought 520i se 00 it happens when in a high gear like if i try to accelerate in third i get like a sctrahing noise and it goes after a sec ,i remember yeras ago hearing it from an old car and the mechanic said something about a pinkering noise [lost] can anyone shed some light on the problem

Pinking sounds like a metallic rattle, not really a scratching noise.

He's taking the wee, if you had a hole in a piston you'd be leaving a smoke trail like the red arrows

When was the car last serviced? Pinking can be caused by lots of different problems, but old, crusty spark plugs, or plugs of the wrong heat rating are one of the simpler problems to fix.

it was just serviced last week ,but in honesty it didnt or at least i never noticed it before the service

Maybe they left some of their tools in your engine bay
