Hi all,

Looking for some advice if possible. Just noticed over the past few days that my 59 plate Corsa has a strange noise which can only be described as a knocking noise when I go over any surface that isn't smooth, it appears to be coming from the front of the car. It's not really loud but it sounds as if something is rattling when I hit bumps etc. I'm not sure if this is relevant but we only had our tyres changed a week ago, any idea what could be causing the noise? Can't get to the garage until Wednesday. Any ideas would be great.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure we had the roll bar replaced last year. I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to cars, what am I looking at cost wise? :)

Should be less than £30 for parts, maybe an hours labour, two tops?

Worth knowing what it was you had done last year. It's unlikely to be the ARB itself, more likely to be a droplink(s) or the bushes.

Check your wheel nuts are tight too. Just to be sure.

It will be the drop links then. £7 each on ebay. All you need is a couple of spanners and 15 mins a side to change them, less if the nuts aren't rusted up. Jack the car up, remove the wheel and they will be staring at you.

Some advice to get under there with the car safely jacked up with both front wheels off the ground and to check the play in those components first would be ideal... Unless you like just spunking money on parts you don't yet know have failed. ;)
Could be anything from a ball joint to a top mount, to a shock absorber or broken spring.
Very likely to be a drop link as mentioned but worth CHECKING FIRST.

Thanks for the further advice, I'm no car expert at all so I'm a bit reluctant to get under there. I will take it to the garage on Wednesday and pretend I know what I'm talking about. :D

Well if you never fumble around in amongst the oily bits you never will be. :D
You wont break it just by looking at it and then at least you can feel somewhat safer in the knowledge the garage isn't telling you a load of porkies about what needs replacing when you go and get their advice.
Better still, get them to show you. :D

£90 sounds fair to be honest. At the end of the day if it doesn't fix it take it back! But drop links are pretty common, especially if it had the ARB/bushes done recently. Probably all close to end of life.

Thanks I have phoned around a few places and they all seem to think that sounds right. Can't harm to double check I guess! :)

Decided to just do them myself with step father, see how we get on. Just ordered 2 x @ £7.99 from shop where I live.

Well the noise started getting worse over the past few days so this morning I had set aside to take a look with the step father. We replaced the passenger side link bar which was very loose at the top, fitted the new one and all sorted! And it only cost me £8. Thanks again for all of the advice!

Anything to do with the brakes or suspension should be done in pairs really. If that one was that bad the other side can't be far behind.

Agreed for most things. especially for the money. Passenger side does tend to take more of a beating, hence I only did my NS wheel bearing when it started grumbling.
