Strange noise

Hi guys.

Ok I have this strange noise coming from my computer, I think it is my hard drive, but I'm not sure.

I have attached a sound file to this post, if anybody could help me out on this one and maybe explain what this strange noise is, would appreciate it a lot.

Aye defo sounds like the HDD.

How old is the HDD, it could just be working over a lot of fragmented info, it may be worth defragging it, and on the safe side back it up and possible look to getting another HDD just incase it is on the way out.

I agree with CEUOTC. Before doing anything, backup ASAP if you've not already.

It's only about 2 years old. I haven't tried de-fragging. I will try this, thanks.

Backup and de-frag then don't worry about it... it's either going to die or not.

I've had one making that noise which died a week later. Another which is still going strong after 5 years...

Just sounds like disk thrashing to me. Whilst backing everything up is a good idea I'd be tempted to check the task manager for what is causing the hard drive to be accessed so much.
