Strange Oblivion problem - Hist tree quest

I've played through most quests on Oblivion in previous characters, now with my current character ive got as far as the "Hist tree" quest for the Fighters guild, yet when I enter the BlackWood company hall in Leyawiin - the members attack me... yet I cant kill them! They're only knocked unconscious!!

Anyone else seen this before?

I've tried turning off all mods, and trying again - same problem. Seems as though some 'flag' somewhere hasnt been tripped, to enable you to kill the Blackwood Company troops. (I have done this before, using a different character - ace fight, against about 5 of them)

Any ideas how to fix this?

Try using the console.

Tilde - Click on enemy, type "kill"

If that doesn't work, you can always skip past this part of the quest using the console command - sorry, but don't know this of the top of my head. Try using the wiki.
