I upgraded my machine about 5 months ago to the following spec.

Asus PK5-E/Wifi
Intel Q6600 @ 2.4 - Freezer Pro 7
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz
Geforce 6800 256mb
STD 160GB IDE
Sony DVD-RW
550w PSU

Been working fine for 5 months straight.

The following random problems seem to be occuring.

I do leave machine running through the night about twice a week, came in one morning and moved the mouse after using Ai-Nap and System error appeared staing "The endpoint format is invalid. So on this i clicked my only option "OK". The system restarted and then would not go into windows, just keep restarting, i could see that just before it started (about 2 nano seconds) a blue screen was trying to appear. Safe mode would do the same, last known configuration same again, tried most standard possibilities. Repair from console, repair from setup.

But still no luck.

HDD?? My thought, so i stuck in another 160 IDE HDD (i have 6 of the same model) formatted and installed Windows XP Home, after about 5 mins of having it installed i would get all the same problems again, plus more like... windows would load and some random drivers would not load, like graphics one boot then mouse next boot and so on. HDD?? no not again so i tried low level format on the same drive and same again, same random problems. Again some additional ones. Bear in mind fresh install, std drivers required like chipset, sound, network etc, nothing out of the ordinary. Have evern cancelled any software. Although nothing i use new on the last 5 months, so strange???

So once again 3rd HDD still no luck.

One last option before i look towards the MB.. Ram

So i took the second stick out and wallah, although its only been this morning that i have processed the ram.

Thinking to myself, well that was easy, i thought well if its a stick of ram then i will try the second stick on its own in the first slot... wollah... works fine ran a few benchmarks sandra, prime95 and everest. Both work fine alone??

So stick them both back in, still working now, no problems yet, although i noticed that the load time into windows was slightly slower. But seems to return good benchmarks.

Now is this going to come back?? or did the ram not connect correctly?? didn't think it was possible... anyone have any ideas, anything i can install to test and stress the machine or is prime one of the best.

The machine seems to be cool enough, and as i said the errors seem to be random, when the machine was first turn't on, on for a few hours.

Just very very odd, and i dont want to start installing proggies again and find that it goes all **** up again. As no recovery option seems to sort it, and i cannot get into windows.

I have also run chkdsk in cmd in windows and i finds the usual bitmap errors, so i do a fix and then there is nothing. Although i have read up and it seems this is an issue with Windows XP.

If you have managaed to read through all my post and haven't got bored then i really do appreciate all your help, as this has totall ruined my weekend.

Thanks guys and gal

Cheers

Yeah i have done a fresh in stall on 3 different HDD with no 3rd party software install not even office. Still happened.

Well i have been running it all day with both mem chips back in and no problems at all untill 22:30 ******.

It just decied to reboot itself flashed blue screen for a nanosecond and then kept cycling boot, with a nano second blue screen, that i cannot read.

I weren't even running anything it was just idle??

So i have taken out the second memory chip again, this time its the opposite one, will see if its still on in the morning.

So could this narrow it down to the board going faulty or anything else i should try.

It seems to be doing it when its in duel channel mode??

Thanks for your advice steve, know of any other low powering software out there?

Cheers

Please fully star out any swearing

Cheers Slashiem,

Will give it a try tonight.

Seems to have done the same with that one chip in, just goes into the rebooting recycle mode.

Annoying ?

Will try that one tonight Mirage, will that make a difference as i haven't changed the settings in there at all??

Thanks for the little nudge, although i thought you could have upto 4 lines of txt?

Aye, try defaults. It could possibly be a setting that is causing unstability, especially if both ram modules work fine on their own.
BTW, quite strange about your sig, I could see that you evidently had a 4 line sig but for some reason the last words of line 1 and 3 were being pushed onto a row of they own! Think it's an inconsistancy between browsers.

Yeah I saw that too, it seems that the fault is there when I use Both modules and 1 module, i now have 1 more module to test, but it seems that i have to leave in on idling before it faults. It seems ok but then goes off on one.

Will try the last chip by itself tonight, then defaults.

What about windows, will i need to reinstall when i set bios to defaults??

By the way its inconsistency not inconsistancy, dont worry, i do the same lol

Cheers for your input so far :)

first things first if you havent already, turn on BSOD so you can see what its reporting.

How do i do this,

There was one of the times it crashed and did actually come up with the blue screens, then it come up with about 10 different one dumping to disk 1...2...3...4...5... etc???

How do i turn it on??

Thanks

reset bios defaults - and dont put your overclock back on. Have you run memtest86+? If you download ultimate boot cd and boot from the CD, then look for memtest86+ and leave it running till it completes atleast 7 passes (will take a very long time BTW so leave it going over night).

But then what id this fauls, dows it prove that its the memory or could it still be the MB??

Also for some reason i have to activate windows again, it seems since its crashed its lost the fact that i have activated it already??

If it fails it could be a faulty stick of memory (you might wanna try each stick individually so you can rule out 1 particular stick). Have you removed your overclock yet? It would be the first thing that I would do.

I actually removed the over clock a while ago, probably about 2 months ago just forgot when i wrote the topic.

I have done one stick and it only took 1h45mins?? is that right? about 15 mins a pass

You said over night, i did test it on default settings and it passed 7 passes on 10 tests.

The temps are always ok around 35 idle on average on each core. MB again seems to be ok. But it seems to be doing it when windows is running for 3-4 hours with no processes running, just idleing. And i have run prime95 only for about 1 hour and the temps go up to about 48 c.

Right i have ran both sticks seperately and both pass, on 7+ passes and it ran 10 tests 0 errors found.

Im baffled, it works now for 3-4 hours then reboots, well we shall see in 3-4 hours.. . . wish me luck.

Then when it does what new error will i get this time??

I have also noticed some savedump's in the event log stating that it had to reboot?

Although they dont make any sense to me!?!?!

in xp right click my computer and go to properties, click on advanced tab, now the settings button in startup and recovery should have a tcik box with something like "automatically restart" untick this.:)

Wow i got it right, thats what i done.
Cheers

I just remembered something which I had changed, I remember updating my bios from 0906 - 1013.

So I changed it back and wallah, seems to be ok atm.

No problems for 2 weeks, when i had 1013 it seems that it used to go wrong within seconds sometimes, maybe a dodgy flash. Not sure

But i think i will stay with 0906.

Dont even know why i changed it anyway.

Cheers guys

Seems this problem is back.

Tried all the following.

3 Different HDD on IDE and 1 on SATA.

Memory Sticks together and individual.

Resetting the bios.

It is totally random error each time, nothing exactly the same.

Always seems to be corruption.

Could it be me memory which is:

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz

The board dont officially support 1066 but does have memory boost or something.

Any help very much appreciated.
