Strange P2P Problems

I'll try and keep this as short as possible.

I've recently upgraded my computer to a 6300, DS3 etc. After i'd built it, i had problems with the PCI network adapter i was previously using in my old system. After a bit of research i put it down to the fact that it was a 5v card and that the DS3 only supports 3.3v (something to do with the PCI version).

As i'm impatient and wanted my internet back i ran out to a well known computer store and bought a Belkin USB network adapter. All was fine and dandy and i was able to connect to our wireless network and surf the internet. However, since then my download speeds particularly when using P2P do not rise above 10kb/s. I am using Plusnet 2 MB (although not for much longer), port forwarding is correctly configured and general speeds when surfing is fine. I have tried using a number of different P2P applications, changing the port i am using, limiting my upload speed and changing all sorts of connection settings.

The strangest thing about it is the computer in our lounge is configured using exactly the same settings and download speeds are not perfect but somewhere around 100kb/s the only difference being the network adapter. Signal strength is strong at between 80 and 90% and before i upgraded my speeds were fine. Anyone got any ideas what be causing this and how it can be fixed?

can you really get 100k/s with bit torrent with plusnet? I fail to believe that seeing that even encrypted BT packets now get shaped to hell. Getting 10k is an accomplishment in itself on plus.

Yesterday morning we download a couple of episodes of something. 1 was at 80 kb/s and the other at 40kb/s. Ok granted that's probably the fastest i've seen it in a number of months but even so before i upgraded it was anywhere between 40 and 80 if i'm lucky. I'm just a bit puzzled as to why one PC will download a heck of a lot quicker than mine every single time. Most of the time it will sit at around 2kb/s. It might go up to 10 momentarily but straight back to 2 or 3 in a matter of seconds.

Sorry to drag this back up again but this morning the computer in our lounge was a steady 200kb/s using BitTorrent on Plusnet. Has anyone ever seen speeds of this kind using 2MB Plusnet? All we did was request a MAC key and now it's sorted. Strangely enough, my computer was left on over night and was a steady 4kb/s when i woke up this morning. So annoying i can't get my head around it.
