Hello Everyone,

A friend of mine is experiancing some very strange problems with their Pipex ADSL Connection (Activated November 2007!!!). This has never worked and has always experianced the fault below. Since install its been a constant battle with Pipex...

The problem which they are experiancing is that the connection fails to load websites. However sometimes its possible to get to the google homepage but any larger site just fails to load. Sits at "Website Found, Waiting for a reply".

Things tried to resolve the issue:

- Checked Master Socket but there is no test socket to use.
- Tried my laptop which is used daily on my connection which experianced the same problem.
- Checked and there is no other phones, no Sky only the one master socket with the phone and router connected.
- Changed the filter.
- Pipex have changed the Router, I've also tried a USB modem that made no differance.
- Same Issue both Wireless & Wired
- Tried another DNS Server
- Spoken to Pipex who say there is no issue and claim that BT have checked the line and found no fault either.
- The router has a "Internet Connection Test" feature which sometimes fails on DNS and other times Gateway, sometimes passes fine.

The Router syncs at above 4000kbps, so its not at the end of the line etc.

The Router was supplied by Pipex and is as follows:

Speedtouch 576 v6

Product Name: ST576
Software Release: 6.2.16.3
Software Variant: --
Boot Loader Version: 1.0.1
Product Code: 36093120
Board Name: BANT-3

I'm really lost at where to go and the user is about to give up and try to cancel the contract and try another ISP.. My concern is that if its not a pipex issue and that is canceled that we may face the same issue with another ISP.

Really looking for anything I can try as well as how to go from here...

Thanks,

Michael

Turn off both to be sure. See if that gives you a site. Then you will just have to work out which one it is. Also dont forget to reset all security levels in tools > internet options > security, incase that is set to a high content block level. Also make sure to turn your microsoft network properties back to default e.g. automatic DNS, automatic IP address etc. If that doesn't work, try a reinstall of windows networking and internet explorer, could also try a manual connection set up to the internet with pipex username and pass without using the crappy pipex cd installer just in case.

Hmmm... I'm having a similar issue with pipex as well.
Can load up homepage (google), can search and get results, but cannot get any other website either from bookmarks or from a link. I suspected it was a dns problem.

Finally got through to pipex last night (took 45 minutes) and they said the dns servers had changed - not much bloody good if they don't tell you!. Gave me new primary and secondary dns numbers. Tried them and still got the same problems.

Completely scunnered at the moment - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Doogs.

Finally solved the problem last night.

Pipex (in their infinite wisdom) have changed their DNS servers - presumably moving us onto tiscali (who own Pipex) or something like that.

I upgraded the firmware in my router (Netgear WG814) to the latest version, which now provides an option to alter the MTU value - I changed this to 1500 and everything now works. Don't know if this was the main problem but, the firmware upgrade seems to have solved it.

BTW before trying the above I did try opendns and other dns server addresses I found on the internet but it didn't work, this led me to believe the problem was somewhere in the router. Pinging sites was working fine but, they just weren't being displayed in a browser.

Cheers,
Doogs
