Strange problem - boiler next to computer makes screen flicker, sometimes screen goes black

My computer is next to the boiler, and whenever I hear the boiler "click" or start doing something, my screen will flicker. Sometimes it will make the screen will go black for a couple of seconds. I'm assuming it's something to do with the power, but unfortunately this room only has 1 plug socket to use. Would a UPS or something similar fix this?

Maybe. It does sound like brown outs. I take it you don't have a CRT monitor? Can you test the same monitor in a different room? It could hint that its time to rewire your house

I'd start with a low-cost surge-protector-type power strip (they're only £10-20 and a good idea anyway) and go from there.

Just figured out that flicking the lamp on and off will cause the monitor to turn off for 2-3 seconds as well. Lamp is plugged into the same extension strip. I guess I'll try surge protector.
