Got the wester digital mybook 320gb and...

i can access it (my computer, view all the files etc)

BUT

I can't play any films/music OR do an error check, it's like windows is rejecting it :/

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

re-isntall drivers for it, and or the I/O controller for it that is in device manager (be careful, if you get the one thats the same as your windows dirve it'll BSOD, although it should then install on next boot up)
Or your mobo chipset again.
Try the CHKDSK from in windows recovery console.
Failing that, back it up and re-format

could be bad usb port
could be bad enclosure
could be bad hd

test them in that order

(remove the hd from the enclosure and connect up directly)

I have a western digital myBook - biggest waste of money ever.

I also get I/O errors randomly when copying anything larger than a gig. I know other peop with them who also experience these problems.

I think the problem is related to the fact that the mybook is NTFS and Vista (assuming thats what you are using) only likes FAT32 external hard drives. Although i can vaguely recall reading something in SP1 relase notes which addressed this problem.

Feel free to correct me though :)

Seen a fairly high failure rate on the WD mybooks of ~1 year old with the enclosures going wrong. HDD has always been fine though.
