Hi,

My friend has a problem with his computer, a few weeks ago his pc used to crash / overheat and he would have to wait a while to start up the pc.... this wasnt the major problem, this stopped.. now.. after this, his screen went blank into "standby mode" and says "no input signal detected" and the only way of getting the pc back to normal was a restart.... it randomly did this and we thought it may be a problem with the screen or the graphics card... we have 1)replaced the cooler on the card... 2) swapped the card with one that is working (mine from my pc at home)... this had the same problem in his computer.... 3) swapped memory sticks... just to eliminate that.. i didnt think it was that anyway.. 4) swapped screens to check if it was the screen its self... the problem still occured on the other screens..

i really got stuck looking at this problem and someone mentioned to me that it could be the catalyst drivers... i didnt see why it would be those or why this would prevent the "signal" coming through before POST , .. i got through to the windows "mode" selection screen (F8) and selected VGA mode to eliminate the catalyst drivers... to my suprise it got through and i removed the ATI drivers.. once i restarted after removing them i re-installed updated drivers and tried restarting again... during the windows loading screen (where drivers w/e are loaded in the background) it came up with the input signal message again on the screen... since then its been hell getting back to that stage and its random wether it will display the POST screen or just instantly come up with the "signal" message...

im aware this is a reaaaaalllly long post but i couldnt really describe it any shorter.. thanks for reading and any replys

Yeah but its not working now and theres not much else it can be other than the card, chances are the overheating damaged the card. No offense but I would be able to read your posts easier if you didnt leave trailing lines after every few words.

Possibly a dead AGP port?

Try a PCI graphics card if you have one.

Last time I had this problem though it was the MoBo on it's way out

He said that he's already tried a different card, with the same results.

It looks very much like a PSU issue, as Dutch Guy suggested. Maybe you could try your psu in his PC.

The psu has been working all along though, I cant imagine it suddenly producing a lower voltage than usual and the pc stopping at totally different times in bootup. Its probably motherboard related.

Sounds to me like a motherboard or power supply problem. I have found in the past the strangest faults caused by power supplies, they appear almost random.

If it were me I would change the power supply, and if that does not cure it, change the mainboard

sounds a bit like the problem i had but the pc would start up & no signal from gfx would come up on screen, in the end the motherboard died & the psu too, still trying to get in touch with enermax their support seems to be non existant.
