Fellow computer betherin, please help. When I attempt to change my Q6600's fsb from any speed other than the default, I encounter a strange problem... It never goddam works!!!

It stays at the newly set speed for a short while, but 2 - 3 minutes after login, the cpu clocks itself down again. 2.5 to 2.4 within 4 seconds.

If I try overclocking again while logged in, same problem. Stays at the set speed then automatically clocks down after a short while like it has a mind of its own.

When i try the dynamic overclocking function, it just causes stability issues, not during load, but strangely a few seconds after load.

Intel eist off, speedstepping off, spread spectrum off, DOC off. Tried overcloking with bios, clockgen, and ntune. Voltages untouched, temperatures all normal. fsb/memory ratio = 2/3. Latest bios version.

Im a first time overclocker, but I cant find any information on this problem anywhere. I can only hope Its down to my own inexperience.

Vista 32. Q6600. 1gb 800mhz. antec 900 case. Akasa bubble cpu cooler.
8800gtx. msi pn6 mobo, nvidia chipset.

After login suddenly clocking down seems weird. What are you using to measure CPU speed?

What power saving options are enabled? Both in BIOS and Windows.

I'd take a look in msconfig.

Start > Run > msconfig <ENTER>

then click startup

then disable anything related to intel or management in general.

Reboot to check.

Re-enable if there's no difference.
