Strange Problem with PC

Hi,
Im looking for some advice because something very strange has happend with my PC.

The other day I turned it on in the morning, turned it off again and it worked fine. I went home later that night and went to turn it on, but it switched itself off less than a second after I switched it on, which is really strange!!

So I started to try and see if I could find out what the problem is. I presumed it could have been the power supply so I unplugged most things inside, leaving in the RAM and just left the power on the mobo, and it all worked fine. So I then plugged in the power on the SATA drives and it still turned on, then putting the data cables into the drives is where the problem occured. I can leave either one out and it will boot but both together seems to short something out, which is very strange.

The wierd thing is (and I know I could lose everything doing this) but starting with one and then plugging the other data cable in and restarting it boots up fine, so I have managed to get my work off, but I cant understand why they wont work together at initial start up.

Hope this makes sense, just wondering if anyone had any other ideas, I dont have any other SATA ports to plug into and try.

Thanks

It is just about possible that the additional load of the second drive at the point of bootup (when drives normally use the most power) means that the PSU can't cope, is there anything else you could remove from the load e.g. an optical drive or PCI cards to test this theory out? :)

I have a couple of PCI cards that I will try and take out now, but I havnt added anything in a long time so I dont know why it would happen now.

I removed all unnecessary PCI cards and still does not work, do you think it still could be the power supply then?

This is really strange as I cant think of anything else it could be?

Thanks
