Strange problem with Word 2016

Quite often if I have 2 or more documents open, when alt tabbing between them 1 will lock up and I'll have to close and re-open it to be able to do anything again. I've tried searching but came up with nothing, so I'm trying my luck here. I can't imagine it's a very common issue :(

Only ever happens on my desktop, can have the same amount open on my much less powerful laptop and it's fine.
 
I used to get this quite a lot with Excel. If you mouse over Word in your task bar does it show one document then one blank/see-through tab?

I ran a quick fix repair and it hasn't happened since (touch wood).
 
That would mean doing it on every file I open? and as said I don't have a problem with those documents on my laptop so it looks like an issue with my desktop not the files themselves.

Not the documents, the software. If you go to Control Panel > Programs & Features then MS Office and click on Change you should be able to chose Quick Fix repair from there. Shouldn't take too long.

I had the same issue on my work PC and after running the repair, it fixed the issue. Could also try turning off hardware acceleration.
