Hi

well to cut a long story short, about 4 weeks ago i bought a 1 gig stick of ram for my computer. everything was fine, turn off machine put ram in and turn on machine. When i got into windows i found out that i could not change resolutions, am stuck on 1280x800 on a dell 3007wfp.

now at first i though it was the gfx card, so i bought a new one, nope same problem. then i thought i could be the ram, so i tried my old ram but still same problem and so i replaced the motherboard but still the same problem.

i even changed power supply. I restarted windows a 1000 times but still same problem. I phoned dell but they tell me that if the monitor is displaying then there is nothing wrong with it, then told me that i need to try a new machine but still no use, i tried even a new cable but no use.

so anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong? the system is out of guarantee and i don't want to pay for it to be fixed, i would rather buy a new one and sell this one as is. My damn luck

the monitor works just fine but i cannot change resolution, i think that the electronics have gone bonkers.

thanks for reading :)

So could you give us the specs of the computer + drivers for the graphics card.

I thought that the full resolution were only possible by using a dual link dvi cable?

Hi there mtae,

i am using a 6600gt pci-e which has dual dvi(was using a 7800gt before which now is not broken), amd 3200 754 with gigabyte nf4 motherboard, 2x 256 corsair mem(using old ram for the moment)

the driver for the gfx card is 66.93.

thanks

and you've tried the monitor on another PC have you totally independent to your setup? that would be my first suggestion. you could maybe try creating a custom res of 2560 x 1600 using a program like powerstrip perhaps

Hi

just downloaded it and tried the powerstripe program mate, unfortunately when i force a custom resolution i just get a blank screen. With all the computer parts i had bought i built another pc and tried the 7800gt iand still the same problem. I don't know anyone else who has a dual link dvi pc that i would try it with, unless i build another pc, lol.

thanks
