Hi there,

Im just trying to setup my wireless connection on my new pc. I have installed an asus pcen15 card but I cannot see my router on it. It displays a load of other connections in the area but not my router which is downstairs. Im right next to that PC using this laptop & connected to the same wireless network so it isnt a problem with signal. Very confusing,

any ideas?

I'm not sure how to tell. It looks like a modern router, so I wouldnt have thought there would be any problems like that

Login to the router and check

How do I know? Wireless is definitely enabled on the router because im using it on this laptop, I'm not sure what SSID is

SSID is the name of your network, broadcast means people can see it.

I see. I can't log in to the routr as Im in a flat within a house and the router was setup by the landlord. Therefore the only info I have is the name and wireless password..

What does the signal read as? Is there lots of networks in the same channel? (highlight the network you want to join in the top left pane, look below in the channel window)

there are only a couple of others in the same channel. I have a feeling it could be driver problem or router settings but I have no idea where to begin

What channel is it running on?

I've found the odd device that doesn't work with Channel 13, very annoying.

the router is running on channel 1. My PC with its wireless card can locate most of the other networks in the area but not this one. Any other things I could try?

If you know the SSID and the password you should be able to enter them directly rather than picking from a list. You'd need to do it this way if the SSID wasn't set to broadcast.

Is there any chance that the router could be configured to only accept pre approved devices? It's unlikely, but not impossible.

The SSID is definitely set to broadcast because im using a laptop right now and it comes up right away. i wouldnt have thought that the router would only accept pre approved devices because I have connected to it with my other laptop and mobile phone. Just the pc that wont work :/

Update! I removed the wireless adapter from device manager and rebooted pc. My desktop can now detect the router but hangs every time i try and connect 'Waiting for the network' ..
