Strange problem

Get the latest WLAN driverpack from here for whatever OS you have..

http://driverpacks.net/

Extract it to say, C:\Drivers\

Then point Device Manager at that folder to update your WLAN card. Worth a try.

Ok, tried this but still no joy.

I'm still using the laptop right next to the PC that cant find the router and the signal is fine. The signal is actually better on the PC (on the networks that it can find!)

I'm really running out of ideas. Tried a fresh install, tried updating all drivers, tried moving the PC. It can't be a problem with the wireless card because it detects all of the other routers in the area.

If anyone has any more ideas I would be very keen to hear

update!

So I bought Windows 7 as I thought it may solve the problem. (thought it may be a win xp driver compatibility issue)

Now I'm able to pick up the network AND connect to it. My computer says 'connected' to the internet although the internet just does not work.

Anyone experienced this problem before?

Ok, so just tried another adapter and a USB wireless adapter.. same problem. The internet seems to work ever so slightly but it's incredibly slow e.g takes about 2 minutes to load google home page and download speed is about 15bytes/second.

I'm sure it's not wireless interference or range because I'm using a laptop in the same spot and the connection is fine and quick

One thing that may lead to a resolution.

When I plug the asus wireless adapter in to a PCIx1 slot it picks up lots of BT networks in the area.

When I plug it in the PCIEx16 slot it picks up those networks but also the one that I want to connect to (in my flat)

However, when I do 'connect' to this the internet is basically unusable and takes about 10 minutes to load google home page.

I thought it was very strange how the different slots resulted in different networks.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
