Strange problem

Hi

I have built a small pc for a family member and it has developed a fault but i am unsure where the issue is.

To explain, the pc was set up with Windows and had no notable issues at first. However when it first came to be used windows was very "laggy"/slow to respond. Given that this is a g830 pentium with a Crucial M4 ssd being asked to open the folder directory should be practically instant.

I chalked it up to lots of updates and left it for a while. The problem grew worse to the point the pc was practically unusable due to the lag. I then updated the onboard graphics drivers and noticed a vast improvement, though not perfect! Again i left it and again it degraded. I have tried all forms of drivers and tests and i think this is the SSD. I dont have the as ssd score off the top of my head but it was stupidly low.

I now have a second ssd to test it out but i am just enquiring if anybody else has had a similar ultra laggy pc and what they found the cause was?

Any help much appreciated.

are sata ports set to ahci mode?

use ssdlife to see what fw version and how many hours usage the m4 has had, theres a common 5400 hour freeze bug which can be fixed by flashing to latest fw

Fresh install of windows tried and no luck, shall try the ssdlife test.

The sata port is set to achi and i have tried the ssd on both 6gb and 3gb ports.

Same lag when booted into safe mode? If the lag goes away under safe mode, that's usually a good clue at a software level problem. You can at least rule out a software issue if the problem is still present.
