Hello all.

I've got a rather strange SLI problem which has been baffling me for a while now, let me explain...

My newest MSI 1070 card is plugged into the first slot and my old MSI 1070 card (the first one I bought) is plugged into the second slot.

Everything runs fine like this as expected (even while overclocking). But if I switch them around IE my new card in the second slot and my old card into the first slot I get these strange graphical artifacts during gaming, for example I get these red lines running across the screen. But when I switch them back to their previous slots the problem goes away.

It appears my old card doesnt like to be in the first slot while in SLI. Can anyone explain this? It's also worth noting that my new card uses Micron memory chips and my old card uses Samsung memory chips. However they both OC the same on the memory.

Has this got anything to do with primary/seconard card setup? But I can't see this being the issue becuase their both identical cards MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X 8GB

Cheers guys

Have you ever updated the BIOS on the micron card? I had to on my MSI 1070 to help with memory stability.

If you do flash it I would do it with just the card in the system on its own.

The fact you say they overclock the same on memory is very surprising as microns are known to clock lower. That's assuming your pushing the clock as high as it will go at like 500-600+

Yeah they both OC the same on memory +600

the clock speed is determined by the top card. so if you new card can OC better, it will force the older card to clock their too.

the artifacts are seen because the old card memory cannot handle your OC.

I've fixed it. There's a BIOS update on MSI's website saying theres a problem with the card's Micron memory chips saying people are getting poor OC results with artificats and some people were getting artificats at stock. Apparently they had to source new memory chips as they ran out of Samsung chips becuase of high demand last year. Flashed the card and now I can run either card in either slot without artificats! My new card [flashed] might OC a bit better as well.

Well seeing as

Lol..what they really mean is that all the early first batch cards used the superior, but more expensive, Samsung memory & then we switched to the inferior & cheaper Micron stuff.
