so was using a 500w to power a new fx8320 on a 970 board anyways the psu poped and we bought a replacement.

we picked up a 750watt "point" psu but for some reason wont boot the computer.

we tried an old "type R" 580watt psu and it booted no problem and tried the new "point" one in an old system and that worked no problem.

any ideas why the old psu worked on the 970 board but the 750watt didn't but the 750watt worked on the old system?

cheers phil

didnt plug in everything correctly most simple explanation i could come up with.

we did dude, we pulled everything to bits and rebuild multipul times, really theres only 2 mobo power cables. its not a hard test.

i wouldnt make a thread called strange psu problem if it was something as simple as "oh i didnt plug in the big atx power block"

Its nothing to do with the wall sockets or wiring up.

The 970 board needs a 8pin molex 12v connection and the old system we tried only needed a 4 pin.

Best answer i could think of was one of the 2 blocks that make up the 8 pin is damaged.

Its going back to the shop on tuesday (the psu) and going to try a different brand
