Hi all

I was asked this question by a friend who attended an interview recently,

work out how many people are writing emails at the moment?

Must say it has got me, I know roughly know how to find out how many sent emails and emails received from something like google mail server and so on, but this one is little more tricky.

anyone got idea?

Sounds like a cool .com hipster Google style interview question :)

In which case aren't you supposed to show how you could potentially come up with a logical answer.

Simplified somewhat to ...
Approx number of global emails sent daily
Minus percentage of automated spam emails
Equals best guess?

Hi all
Work out how many people are writing emails at the moment?

Very ambiguous question - is that number of people writing an email and sending it (which case you could guestimate like Baj mentioned) or do you have to factor in a percentage of people writing emails and then deleting it/sticking it in 'drafts' etc?

the problem is that this was asked as a technical question in c# & asp.net context, from my understand(limited as it is) i don't see how its possible to do this, query the mail servers, without having access to other peoples password and email address, or is there a way to achieve this using in code?

its not possible or is it?

Sounds like a cool .com hipster Google style interview question

indeed it is, i think its silly line of questioning :D
