Strange remote access, screen issue.

My colleague has a laptop and it seems the inverter had gone. So we plugged an external screen in to try and fix it. We then closed the lid and noticed someone moving the mouse and opening some apps on the external monitor. Whenever we opened the lid they stopped moving the mouse around.

We have turned the wifi off and I looked in the control panel and un-ticked allow remote access. We are doing a system restore or a factory reset.

Has anyone had this before or is it a known malware? Is the screen invertor a separate issue or linked with the remote access?

Many Thanks

Do you see anything on the screen after the laptop is turned on?
Which applications did the person open?

Disabling remote access won't do anything if a malicious person has loaded a remote access tool.

It seemed like the laptop screen was broken as there was a really faint image on there (that's why I thought the inverter was broken). I tried disabling the lid closing sleep functions but that didn't work.

We then put a external monitor on and the image was fine on the external. I then closed the lid of the laptop and we could still see the desk top on the external and the mouse was moving and opening task manager and display properties. Then every time we opened the laptop lid they stopped moving the mouse.

I actually think it is two separate issues as I have now been informed someone spilt drink next to the hdmi and vga ports on the laptop and got them wet inside. I have now got the display working on the laptop as we are doing a windows 8 factory reset. I think the remote accessing had been on a fair while and we just happened to see it when we put an external monitor in.

It just seemed strange as they didn't really do much, just looking at task manager and an 'ACMON' process in there. I think they may have caught on we had seen them as they kept looking at the displays attached.
