Strange Screen Flickers During Games

Hi guys

New rig is working great however, while playing games there is a faint horizontal line flickering across the screen, its only very faint and you can only notice it when there is darker colours on the screen during games.

GPU is - MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming

Running BF4 on ultra temps are 70s+, but this is also present during less taxing games like war thunder/ dayz/ cs go. Or for example if I have a game minmized you can still see this flickering/distortion on desktop

Seems to handle games flawlessly apart from this issue.

This can't be seen on a screenshot either.

My monitor is a pretty old LCD, 60mhz using a VGA cable rather than DVI so am guessing this could be part of the problem. ( it has no DVI slot nor HDMI )

Any suggestions? Really hoping I don't have to go down the RMA route

Rest of specs are

i4770k stock + h60i ( 25-30c idle)
8GB Teamgroup @ 2400mhz
crucial m500 240gb
650w psu

Yeah have a 6m HDMi linked to my TV will test

Does sound to me like you need a new monitor, but see how your test goes

Did you just say 6metre hdmi ? Hhaha how long do you need, your pc must be in another room , sorry for being off topic

Its the other side of the room wall mounted. So 6 metre, although probably only need 4/5m

Confirmed. Tested it on the TV and the flickering is none exsistent.

I couldn't get it to stay full screen on the TV however it even flickers in windowed mode on the monitor and when I dragged it over to the monitor it was x5 clearer.

Cheers for the help guys, glad It was the monitor as it was next on the upgrade list anyway, think am gonna go for the BenQ 144. Shame this monitor can't turned vertical as I don't the the space for a 22 and a 24 on the desk!

Have you considered ips panels ?
