sorry in advance for the long post.

having a strange problem with one of my SETI crunchers, its seems to run much slower than it should. it is even taking longer than a laptop

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=406926404

in this link mine is the one that takes 1732 sec to do a 14.48 unit and a laptop only takes 1043. both of us are running akv8. my benchmark was 2792/5857 compared to the laptop's 1837/3829??

and its not like its a one off, as most of the units are a similar size and take a similar length of time. plus if you work out an RAC based on the above time it is similar to what the machine is doing ~1500.

I run SETI on a few machines, 3 of which are realitively similar (all core2duo's). they all run akv8. however this one takes considerable longer to crunch the current short work units than the other two, even though it is clocked faster (3 gig) and reports higher flop counts in the benchmarks. the other two get an RAC of around 2000 and are clocked at 2.4gig.

i did wonder about overheating/thermal issues, however easytune says the CPU is at ~60oC and TAT (not running just monitoring temps when SETI'ing) says around 66oC. High (due to the ambient room temp being over 30), but no where near throttling i'd have thought.

the rest of the specs are as follows

E4400 @9*333=3000
Gigabyte P965 S3
2 gig DDR2 5300 kingston value running
X1800XT
windows XP SP3

any ideas?

Is it running at full speed or throttling back? TAT will tell you the speed the chip is running at as well as the temp.

as far as i could tell TAT seemed to imply it was running at 3 gig. although i have never seen a screen shot of what TAT looks like when throttling so not 100% sure. might be able to post a screen shot later
