Hey all,

I have a strange problem at the moment and its driving me crazy.

The problem is a that I have a really old Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic as my sound card and recently its been a bit temperamental.

Sometimes when I boot the PC, it wont be working. Its not detected by windows or anything. Its as though it doesn't exist. On a few occasions I've been a bit lazy and just plugged my headphones into the on board sound.

The other week it happened again and I just thought screw it. Decided I'd use the onboard because it was becoming really annoying.

Then I noticed a crackling sound when I'm just sitting here doing nothing. Which annoyed me. So I went back to the creative card - which has been working fine for a few weeks until tonight.

So now I'm on onboard sound again.......and NOW I can hear a faint buzzing sound whenever I move my mouse. This is driving me absolutely mental and I need to sort it out lol.

I'm reluctant to buy anything new until I have figured out whats going on. I've googled the buzzing sound thing and it appears as though its due to some sort of interference? I really haven't got a clue.

Please help me! :D

Oh. my Motherboard is a Gigabyte Z68AP-D3.

Thanks!

I just tried the card in a different slot and its working for now. But whether it decides to stop working the next time I reboot is another story :D

This is a very common problem with many ways to cause it.
RF interference is usually the culprit. Optimum cable routing can help. Extensions are sometimes needed.
Could be USB devices, try unplugging, or different placing.
