Hey all,

My PC is running fine but I was playing Left 4 Dead last night and checked the temp of my PC, under load Motherboard was 38C and CPU (AMD X2 4800+) was at 86C.

Turned it on now, idle motherboard is 31C and CPU is 60C and rising.

Any idea if this is even possible, as I thought the X2 fried at 71C+...

Thanks,
Jcb33.

Does the heatsink require cleaning, fan still operational.
Has the pc been knocked to which the heatsink has become loose, can check temps with a different software ie HW monitor.

Using the ASUS Temp Monitor, and Case temp display, also no to knocking etc, but I will check after work what condition the Heatsink is in.

Right got some air from the pc shop, bar the fact that it froze my fingers a hell of a lot of dust came out my my PC (Ever more in my heatsink) and seems to be idle at 45C now, will report back how it copes under load.

what case do you have? but erm 71c for gfx doesnt mean fried tbh

ever considered getting a third party cooler for it? lower temps and less noise:D

still bloody waiting for an alternative for my 4890!

He's talking about his cpu, not his GFX.

Still quite high one would suggest. Maybe a re-seat of you cooler or even a better CPU cooler could help. Your MB temp seems fine which suggests that your case cooling is doing its job.
