Strange Throttling 9700k (OrbitalWalsh)

There isn't any real need to change the actual heatsink, unless you can't get the results you want with the new thermal pads, and removing the standoffs to get a better contact surface area with the pads.

cheers 1.5 mm thermalright pad coming tomorrow, will see how much that changes. Thanks for your help

Check the thickness of what is on there now, you might need to stack them to double thickness if your board has a 3mm pad already.

What I tend to do is to use perhaps slightly thicker than I think I need and put the heatsink back on with nylon nuts and bolts so I can get the tension about right.

So i swapped out the pads on both heatsinks, thermalright new ones

Aida64 stress test
Before After
1 minute 85' 56'
2 min 99' 63'
5 min 119' 78'
8min cut out 126' 84'

Very happy, thanks for all your help !!

no wiggle, they are probably twice as thick as old one. very nearly snapped one of the pins of at the back tho but managed to save it lol

Nice, I have 17W/mk stuff I use on all boards whether cheap or expensive but Def not someone everyone can afford for what they are at £50 for 2 vrm strips .

Have found out, if you've got a great VRM set up say like Tomahawk x570, or Fin heatsink like z590 Master or watercooled VRM.. losing half the performance with thermal pads. Gigabyte moved from 3 to 5 now 7W/mk and rest still between 3-5 but still all naff .

Now you've done your board.. you'll do your GPU memory and vrm lol
