Strange vertical lines on half of Laptop screen.

I've been given a Sony Vaio VGN-SR19XN which has some strange screen issues. I would try to explain more, but I might as well just post a picture.

The lines aren't completely black, they change colour to almost match the actual colour needed.
Is this the screen or the graphics chip?

Looks like people have the same issue with that laptop and it looks like it is the screen... It might be worth running it off an external monitor to check though.

Edit: if it is the graphics chip it could just be overheating, might be worth doing a proper clean out of the fans.
