strange vista prob need help

ok i installed quicktime last night emm and the new nokia maps program. well as of this morning i switched my system on booted as normal went to my user account clicked on it entered password etc. Now i don't have a desktop/no icons or anything any1 know how to restore my desktop with out me having to do a format and install again. strange thing is i can use crtl alt del and get the system manager up and i can run things from there with no problems

i can get my system back by going to windows task manger and running explore.exe it dosen't seem to load it on the start up now

i'd create a new user account and use that, if yours is broken, it's quicker to do that than format

well it does it on all my accounts, dads mine and the main admin 1 this is all i get when i get into windows
