Morning all.

I am currently building a smaller machine for a family member. I got a free MSI P4 board with a 2.5Ghz P4 chip. Then got some new ram and a hard drive. So I built the system installed Windows XP Professional on it. The install went just fine. And it booted up on to the desktop just fine for the first time. However, upon restarting the system, it loads to the Windows boot screen.

After the boot screen has finished loading, my screen goes blank and turns off. (Orange light on screen). Rather odd. So I boot it up in safe mode and it's just fine. I checked the event viewer and there's an error in there saying two files/drivers are not signed. One is a ntsetup.exe and the other is a reg files.

Now, how do I fix this problem, any ideas guys?

Thanks for any help!

Considering this is a fresh install, I would suggest that something went wrong during the install (a file copy error of some sort). I performed an install once, and it went completely awry. I kept getting lot's of strange errors ob booting (file write permissions, etc). My advice is to re-install windows again, just to be on the safe side of sorry.

It could also be a hardware problem. Have you tried using CPU and RAM tests such as Prime95 and Memtest?

My guess is if it isn't blue screening then the PSU could be struggling.

Dan.

Problem sounds very much like the video refresh rate is too high for the monitor with the normal Windows startup. Did you also install drivers for the video card ?
