hey there y'all.

basically, i'm currently running windows 8 and for some strange reason my wireless connection is up to being named wifi 7 (having, i assume, made an appearance as the previous numbers at some point) do we know why?

ALSO, i've been struggling with getting a stable connection recently as my USB wireless receiver, the netgear (unsure of the model but it doesn't appear to be listed on the netgear website any more ), has been randomly cutting out causing my connection to drop. to resolve this i have to unplug and re-plug the adapter and it retrieves the connection immediately.

any ideas guys?

for some reason it happens any time i try to host a game on ARMA 2, and it's been happening when using uTorrent and earlier this evening when trying to download the latest War Thunder patch.

cheers.

You don't need to worry about the naming of the wireless connection, it simply that it has made a connection using the different config but the same SSID on a number of occasions, so just increases the number to avoid it getting confused. I am almost 100% convinced it's nothing to do with the unstable connection.

Do any of your other wifi devices have the same problem with cutting out?

When you first joined your wireless connection did you answer 'no' to sharing files across your network? If you did it would have designated your network as public rather than private which might be why it keeps increasing the number appended to your network name. Also happens I believe if you use mobile broadband.

perhaps! well, as long as it's not causing any harm then i needn't worry!

re: the cutting out, there are many devices connected to the router and none of them suffer the same issue at all. just my pc.
