Strange yellow icon in windows taskbar

Recently I've had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle pop up on the taskbar for no apparent reason. It also makes that "pop" sound when it appears. When I click on it it just disappears. I've had it come up when playing games and during normal use, browsing the internet, etc.

Anybody else ever have this and know what it is?

Thanks. I never knew about that event viewer :)

I have 2 errors..

"The COM+ Event System attempted to fire the EventObjectChange::ChangedSubscription event but received a bad return code. HRESULT was 80040201."

and..

"The COM+ Event System failed to create an instance of the subscriber partition:{41E90F3E-56C1-4633-81C3-6E8BAC8BDD70}!new:{D3938AB0-5B9D-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E}. CoGetObject returned HRESULT 80070422."

I have no idea what this means. There is a link to Micro$oft site about the erros but it just comes up saying there is no additional information about this error. Typical.

looks like you have popup balloons disabled. if you didn't you should get some info about the error symbol.

i don't think those event viewer logs have anything to do with the warning in the systray..... :)

does it look like this?

its probably windows update downloading or installing updates for you..

check your automatic update settings and maybe run windows update

It looks similar to that but just a triangle, not a shield icon. I never use Windows Update, I have it disabled. I have balloon tips disabled aswell so I will turn them on and see if it comes up again.

Not sure about the pagefile, I haven't changed it so it shouldn't be that.

Thanks for the help :)

I am unable to remove a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in my taskbar (it leads to options for my C drive and USB modem - any ideas?

Also is there any way to get rid of the Red Windows security shield which is displayed as I have automatic updates turned off?

The two are currently hidden, but I'd love to get rid of that annoying arrow once and for all. :)
