Hi everyone,

Wasn't sure where to post about this but thought I'd try here...

I have seen this error once on my pc a while back, and just saw it on my friends laptop today and was wondering what the hell it is...I cannot even find anything on it on google...

I am really not sure what caused this to come up...but when Windows boots up, you get the following message come up just before you come to your desktop:

"Don't play stupid with me. I'm better at it!"

You then press OK, and you are back to your desktop. I also notice it removes the "Pictures", "Music", "Documents" folders from your start menu and you cannot even get them back up again under properties.

In the registry i have noticed that this message that pops up is under a logon message reg entry, when it is deleted it comes back up again...

I'm just curious why I cannot find anything about it online.

I'm assuming you have anti virus software installed and updated, downloaded and installed the more common spyware programs to try to detect and remove this already, failing that you can try doing it manually (see below) but I recommend only that as a last resort.

The popup message before logon is the result of a registry entry, the entries are:

LegalNoticeCaption and LegalNoticeText

These can be found here, and possibly some other locations, just search for the entries given above:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system

If you have found and cleared all occurences of the above, reboot and recheck to see if they have been restored, if so then you have a startup item somewhere causing it. Use something like HijackThis to list startup items and check for anything suspicious.

Cheers i will try this out, its just strange as when i had it once on my PC, it was somebody else that got it on my PC when they were using it to do something. I blamed them for hacking my PC and putting that message there! But now I realise it wasn't that person and actually some weird virus or something :)

Its strange as i've never seen it before in the past, and somehow managed to pop up on my friends PC as i was trying to fix some stuff up on it for him. I am going to try a few programs and look at the start-up entries. Its just stange how it removed certain folders from your start bar which you cannot seem to get back up again.
