Strategy for moving house and getting Fibre

I'm currently with BT on one of their FTTC packages (76mbps). I'm due to move house on the 12th of April. I've done a quick check with BT and I can get FTTP Fibre with BT which I fully intend to go for.

In terms of getting internet up and running quickly, what's the best way to do this whilst also trying to take advantage of the current Top Cashback offer for new Fibre connections?

  • Do I cancel my current BT account and start a new account for the new house. If I do this, is there a long wait time for installation
  • Transfer my existing package to the new house, then apply for a new Fibre account through my wife's name and bank account to get the TCB return? At the same time, cancel my existing package with BT a few days before the FTTP is installed?
Or is there another way to do this?

Pretty sure you won't be able to get cash back as an existing customer. Doing a 'home move' would be best though in terms of flexibility. If there's an ONT already present in the new house no installation is required.

It depends. If you are in contract, then home move *may* be the best option, if you only have a short period left, a discon and recon may be financially more beneficial, but you loose your phone number. If the ONT is already installed, you can be remote activated within 24hrs usually, if not back to home move. Either way if you move home, you get no cash back and if you disconnect you have to give notice/pay any remaining contract fees due.

If you’re out of contract and don’t care about keeping your phone number then don’t do a home move, it’s just a way to lose out on any deals.

Place a new order as a new customer and cease your old services as a separate action. Just make something up and say work are installing a new connection for you, or you’re moving abroad or something, otherwise you’ll get all the retention spiel.
