You can get the PS1 versions of C&C 1 and red alert (& retaliation) from the PSN, not exactly new games but still loads of fun.

field commander might be worth a look its a turnbased strategy game ala advance wars but none of the cartoony stuff, eg a more serious feel and look

Yeah thatll work too, but you'll obviously need your PSP to be connected to the internet to play it which is a bit of a pain out and about.
